Generally, for clothing to meet waterproof standards, the water pressure test result must be at least 10 meters (10,000 millimeters). Water pressure is measured in two main ways: hydrostatic pressure testing and hydrostatic pressure testing.
The degree of waterproofness is tested using hydrostatic pressure testing, which calculates the fabric's ability to resist water penetration. The test uses a water pipe marked with vertical millimeter graduations. The fabric is fixed to one end of the pipe, and water is continuously added, increasing the pressure on the fabric. When water droplets begin to seep from the fabric surface, it means the fabric's waterproof limit has been reached. The number of millimeters displayed on the pipe at this point is the fabric's water pressure rating.
Which waterproof rating is most suitable?
Simply put, it depends on the intended use. When choosing waterproof clothing, several factors need to be considered, including typical weather conditions, activity intensity, and duration. If you plan to spend a whole day in the countryside or mountains, or if snow is forecast for your mountain activities, choosing high-waterproof gear will keep you dry for longer. Conversely, for short jogs or dog walks, a medium to low waterproof rating is sufficient.
